Basic Board Governance:
Governance You Do Not Have to Be a Lawyer to Understand

I have been around a long time and I have seen some things happen that make me sad. One of those things involves volunteers being personally responsible for something bad happening when all they were doing was trying to help out. It never seems fair to me when a volunteer has to reach into his or her own pockets and pay a penalty. Claire Booth Luce once said, “No good deed goes unpunished,” and there are times when I have to agree with her.

This book is intended to provide anyone who needs it with some basic information about board governance—the type of practical information that is written in a manner that is easy for a person to understand and can be used right away.

North America has become a more litigious society, by which I mean that it seems more likely than not that someone is going to sue at the slightest provocation. This trend does not bode well for people who do not know the rules.

If you read this book you will have a much better idea of what is expected of someone who serves on a board.
